An escape game is an immersive adventure where participants are challenged to escape from a locked room. Their objective is to solve puzzles, explore their surroundings and work closely together to escape in less than sixty minutes. These games are inspired by escape video games, Greek mythology, labyrinths and detective story plots. Born in Asia in the early 2000s, they have since conquered the world, gaining in popularity in Paris and France.

The history of the escape game can be traced back to ancient Greece with the myth of Theseus escaping Daedalus' labyrinth thanks to Ariadne's thread, a premise that can be considered the very first escape game. Labyrinths continued to fascinate, becoming a fixture in royal gardens in the 16th century. The modern influence also comes from puzzle video games, among which Myst, released in 1993, marked a turning point. The concept was transposed into physical reality in Japan in 2007 by the SCRAP company, introducing the first indoor escape game. France welcomed its first game in Paris in 2013, and since then the phenomenon has gone from strength to strength, enriching its offering with ever more varied scenarios.

The principle of an escape game is simple yet captivating: a team, generally made up of 2 to 6 players, is locked in a themed room. Given 60 minutes to solve a series of enigmas, participants must use their ingenuity to solve a variety of puzzles, ranging from the logical to the visual and even the aural. Each puzzle solved brings them closer to the final enigma and the key to their escape. The master of the game, observing from a distance, can suggest clues if they get stuck, while guaranteeing the safety and fluidity of the experience. Designed for all ages and levels, escape games call on skills such as observation, communication and cooperation, offering entertainment and thrills.
